- Studio.co.uk has announced a three-year deal to sponsor the family stand at Accrington Stanley Football Club
- In celebration, Studio.co.uk recreated the 1989 ‘Accrington Stanley? Who are they?’ milk advert with a slight twist and a cameo from a Liverpool legend
Liverpool legend Ian Rush has starred in the recreation of the 1989 ‘Accrington Stanley? Who are they?’ milk advert created by Studio.co.uk.
Studio.co.uk, the online value retailer, announced a three-year deal to sponsor the soon to be opened family stand at Accrington Stanley Football Club and to celebrate, decided to recreate the famous advert that got Accrington Stanley noticed, but with a slight twist.
The advert features two young Liverpool fans with one telling the other that Ian Rush had told him that if he didn’t drink milk, he would only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley. However, Studio’s recreation of the advert includes a cameo from Ian Rush himself who informs the fans that Accrington Stanley are in League One now and pretty good!
Rush, Liverpool’s all-time leading goal scorer, took part in the filming, which was all shot in one take like the 1980’s advert, along with youngsters Harvey Jameson and Hayden Goldberg,
Ian Rush said: “The milk advert is iconic and when I was asked to play a cameo role in a recreation of it I couldn’t say no.
“Accrington Stanley are on the way up now and they’ve made a fantastic start to the season, so I had to set the record straight in the filming.”
Paul Kendrick, Managing Director at Studio, commented: “Everyone knows the 1980’s advert but it’s not a case of ‘who are they?’ now because everyone can see Accrington Stanley’s terrific rise to League One.
“We wanted to recreate the advert with a slight twist to celebrate our sponsorship of the club and when Ian said he was interested in taking part we couldn’t wait to get started.
“We are really excited to be sponsoring the family stand at the football club. The club are doing amazingly well now and to be able to support the club and the community is important to Studio. Our primary aim with regards to this sponsorship is to engage with the local community – to show them that we are supportive of redevelopment within the borough.”
Accrington Stanley Football Club is seeing a huge £1.5million transformation over the coming months with the family stand set to be finished early December, after winning League Two last season and being promoted to League One. Studio has been thanked by the club for their sponsorship support.
Andy Holt, Majority Shareholder of Accrington Stanley, said: “Any support is welcome, of course, but it’s always that little bit more special when it comes from local businesses. We hope that the soon to be opened stand will encourage more visitors and will, in turn, increase footfall in Accrington. It’s all about supporting one another, businesses coming together, engaging with the community and working together for the good of the town.”
Studio.co.uk (Express Gifts Ltd.) is a thriving Accrington based company, striving to support other local businesses. They hope that forging a link with the football club will help bring connections and engagements with the local community. For more information visit www.studio.co.uk
