Here at #AmazingAccrington we’re always out and about around the borough and townships.
Recently we were at Haworth Gallery, and across the grounds sits the Artist’s Studios. The once derelict Stables and Motor House have been conserved and converted into artist’s studios, providing them with a safe space to create and collaborate. You can see the artists at work and buy their wonderful creations.
Steve Crowther has been in residence at the Studios for 3 years. He paints in watercolours, and also digitally on his iPad – these can then be printed for sale. During lockdown Steve wrote a book, 100 Days of Social Distancing, with the paintings and sketches he did every day of the local area. His work includes urban views and night paintings of pubs, along with landscapes.
He also painted on canvas this wonderful picture of local institution Trickett’s Ices, inside Accrington Market Hall. We couldn’t resist purchasing it, and took it down to Russell Taylor of Trickett’s to present it as a special gift.
He was delighted, and even knew who the customers were, portrayed sitting at the counter. Russell has been the owner and manager of Trickett’s for 28 years, and we felt he deserved this lovely gift and it would be in its rightful home. #AmazingAccrington!
