Around three hundred would-be apprentices and job hunters attended an apprenticeship and employment event on Friday at Accrington Town Hall.
The event was aimed at anyone, of any age, who was thinking about an apprenticeship. Attendees were able to find out more about apprenticeships direct from employers and training providers, seek expert advice and get one-to-one support in applying for apprenticeship vacancies. There were also real live vacancies on offer, along with the chance to apply for apprenticeships with potential employers on the day.
Also on site were several employers with many job vacancies on offer for those looking for something different than an apprenticeship.
Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson, said, “This is the 4th year we’ve run the event. Hyndburn Council is committed to supporting apprenticeships and employment in the Borough and I’m delighted the event was a success. I’d like to thank all the training providers and businesses from across Hyndburn and beyond who were on hand offering apprenticeships and job vacancies at the event including; North Lancs Training Group, Accrington & Rossendale College, Training 2000, Themis, Blackburn College, Career Visa, Education Business Partnership, Forbes Solicitors, GS Social Care, Newground, Pendle Personnel, General Assorted Plastics, Alternative Futures Group, Tendo Jobs, G4S Events, Xercise4Less, Lancashire County Council, Avon and GP Strategies. This year, we were approached by a local resident, Edward Wearing, who wanted to promote local employment opportunities and who worked closely with the Council and was integral to the success of the event.
Edward Wearing, who runs a Facebook page to promote local job opportunities said, “The event was a huge success and I am very proud to be a part of it. There are some fantastic companies and organisations available in Hyndburn who are all looking to help people find work and apprenticeships and hopefully the fair has been able to connect the two together. I would also like to say a big thank you to Hyndburn Council for helping me to organise the fair and I look forward to working with them on future projects.”
