ACCRINGTON is looking forward to its first-ever Trick or Treat Week this Halloween.

Trick or Treat Week is a collaboration between Accrington and Rossendale College and Accrington-based estate agents Duckworths in a bid to get school children out and about during half term.

Children in the borough can pick up an entry card at the Town Hall, or any participating outlet, and embark on a ghastly walk around town, filling up Halloween buckets and collecting stamps to be entered into a frightfully fun prize draw.

The aim is to make ten visits from the list of shops on the card and return it to the entry box at the Town Hall for a chance to win. Entry cards can also be downloaded from www.amazingaccrington.co.uk

Jonathan Parkinson, Director of Duckworths Estate Agents, said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring Trick or Treat Week in Accrington. It is great that we can have these initiatives which get young people out and about during half term in a fun, creative way. We have always seen ourselves as part of the Accrington community, so supporting Trick or Treat Week was something we really wanted to do.”

Over twenty businesses are taking part in Accrington’s Trick or Treat Week, offering children something fun and free to do during half-term.

Prizes for those who can collect ten stamps including a Kindle Fire, a family ticket to ‘Return to Narnia’ – an interactive show by Just Imagine North West – and a deluxe Halloween sweetie hamper.

Accrington and Rossendale College have been helping the town embrace the spooky spirit, with students practising their special effects makeup skills on some of the senior staff and Council leaders.

Charlotte Scheffmann, Assistant Principal at Accrington and Rossendale College, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring Trick or Treat Week, this initiative gives a motivation for children to get out and about this half term. It has also been a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of our students and the truly remarkable things they can do with special effects makeup.”

Sponsored by Duckworth’s Estate Agents and Accrington and Rossendale College, Trick or Treat Week runs from Saturday, October 28, until Friday, November 3, at 4:00 pm.

Transformed into the undead with terrifying makeovers using theatrical makeup tricks; Miles Parkinson, Leader of Hyndburn Council, Charlotte Scheffmann, Assistant Vice Principal at Accrington and Rossendale College, and Sue Lawson, Account Director at SDA, all took a seat and gave the students full rein… with some terrifying results.
