Oswaldtwistle Mills have a fantastic large outdoor area within their grounds, which is open to the public. They also recently opened their grounds to St Paul’s Scouts group from Oswaldtwistle, to host a popular Family Fun Day and raise funds.

The green space features a large lawn, picnic benches, and a wildlife sanctuary and pond which is host to wild birds including herons. There’s also a garden room which is suitable for community groups and activity classes.

Oswaldtwistle Mills are now looking for partners to help nurture the space and make it a hub for the community. Nick Pitman, Managing Director, said: “We’d love it if a green space or wildlife group would be able to come in and help us restore and enhance our outdoor space. The wildlife area could do with a little TLC from experts who could take it to the next level and make it more suitable for attracting native wildlife, and we hope for lots of varieties of wildlife taking up home there.

“We also have a garden room which we’d like to make available for local groups, and anyone who’s interested should get in touch. Perhaps schools would like regular access to outdoor green space and lessons, and we’d be very interested in making that happen.

“We’re also looking to install an apiary for next year, as this fits with our environmental goals – we’ve installed solar panels on the roof and EV chargers in the car park, and an apiary would certainly be a fascinating way to help the bee population to thrive locally!

“I urge anyone who might be interested to get in touch – we’d like to continue to provide a green space for all the local community, and would love to see this enhanced and taken to the next level by people with a bit more experience than us in these areas. We’d also be happy to show people around!”
