Studio Retail Ltd respond to urgent plea for winter coats by donating 300 of them to national charity, Care UK.
Charity Aid Recycling Enterprise (Care UK), with bases in Manchester, Chorley and North Wales, collect and distribute items and medical aid to people in need. End of line, unwanted or excess stock, donated items and second-hand items are sorted, packed and loaded onto 40ft shipping containers to be taken to refugees in need in Syria, Greece or the Greek Islands.
The charity is supported by former Coronation Street actress and Accringtonian, Julie Hesmondhalgh. Upon seeing their plea online for coats for their service users, she got in touch with a company who she knew would step up.
Julie commented:
“Winter in Syria can be really harsh, with temperatures going below zero and staying there for long periods of time. We’re so grateful to Studio for this donation.”
Sharon Benson, HR Director at Studio, commented:
“As one of the largest businesses in the area it really is up to us to do what we can to support our community, including charities. We ship to over 1.9 million customers nationwide so our natural response when Julie approached us and asked us to support this national charity was instantly a yes. Within the hour we had 300 warm coats boxed up and loaded into a van ready to go. We hope they provide some comfort to those who need warm clothes this winter.”
