Visitors flocked to Accrington Town centre on Thursday evening to enjoy a packed programme of festive entertainment, including a spectacular firework display and of course the big switch on of the towns Christmas lights.
There was lots of festive food and drink on offer, including hot chocolate, donuts and cheese, spiral potatoes and even a Yorkshire pudding wrap. Lots of free activities kept the children happy with free face painting, a soft play area, a photo booth, as well as the chance to visit Santa or even the Grinch on offer!
The Magical Market was full of charity stalls raising money for local good causes with tombola’s galore, and Broadway was a also hive of activity for children and teens who enjoyed the various games and rides.
The entertainment provided on the Town Square stage was a magnificent display of fire, music, action and fun. The Mayor, Cllr June Harrison opened the event and the audience was treated to Christmas carols sung by St Johns Baxenden School Choir, a Dance Academy performance by Zoe Taylor, Disney Christmas Hits sung by Morgan, further carols by Mount Carmel School Choir and the beautiful voice of Claudia Thompson. Indigo Sunset then led way to the grand finale, ‘Just Imagine’, who wowed the crowds with their fire eaters, stilt walkers and Greatest Showman Cast.
Later the night sky above Accrington was lit up in a riot of colour with the big light switch on and the spectacular firework display.
Event Organiser, Stacy Walsh, from ACE said: “This is the first time that the Accrington Community Events team has hosted the event and we are so proud of what we achieved. We believe that Accrington deserves a light switch on to be proud of and we hope we fulfilled this. The highlight of the night was the Greatest Show provided by ‘Just Imagine’, Danielle Sam and their team excelled themselves, it was truly magical and the whole crowd sang along.”
Finally, a huge thanks for all the volunteers, stall holders, performers and most importantly to everyone who came and supported the event.”
