Dates have been announced for three brand new events in Great Harwood in the run up to Christmas, to provide fun and free entertainment for all the family while encouraging visitors to shop local on the high street and enjoy hospitality in local cafes and eateries.
Funded by UK Government’s High Street Accelerator Pilot Programme and delivered by Hyndburn Borough Council, the first one to be announced is a Traditional Christmas Food, Shopping & Music event on Saturday 30th November 10am – 4pm. This will see general and food stalls on Towngate, and a marquee with stage and music acts for entertainment.
The second event is a Traditional Christmas Fayre & Ice Rink on Saturday 7th December 10am – 4pm. This features general, charity and food stalls on Towngate, with a marquee with stage and music acts for entertainment. There will also be a 20ft x 20ft ice rink installed which will be free of charge for participants, with a brass band and carol singers for some traditional entertainment.
The third event announced is a Christmas Shows, Music & Firework Extravaganza on Saturday 14th December 10am – 5.30pm. Children will be able to visit Father Christmas in Santa’s Grotto, two marquees housing Christmas themed street food, Christmas craft stalls, and Christmas card making workshops. There will also be a main stage area on Queen Street in front of Mercer Hall to showcase Christmas shows plus music and street acts on Queen Street and fairground rides. The entertainment will finish with a wonderful silent firework display.
Councillor Kimberley Whitehead, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Arts, said: “It’s great to be able to access funding to showcase how brilliant the high street in Great Harwood is and to bring visitors to the township.
“These are three really fun events which will drive footfall over this key time of year for retail and food outlets, and we hope the people who haven’t been before discover something wonderful they can return to again and again.”
